NFD 2019

A few days before the Big Event, the Tank track needed to be cleared of 4 years’ worth of foliage.

Thankfully Adrian M0TCD had bought his petrol driven hedge trimmer along, which helped
a great deal.

The tank track is long and steep, and by the time Adrian reached the top he and his hedge trimmer were exhausted (N.B. Bring small bottle of brandy next year).

On Saturday 6th July a small convoy of 4 wheeled vehicles carrying all the kit for the weekend, were driven up to the top of the tank track.

The top of the track opens up to a large field, where we set about assembling our two stations,
2m and 70cm.

The 2m antenna was assembled, and guy ropes attached.

Two sets of guy ropes were employed. One set near the top of the mast and the another set
further down.

What a pleasant surprise. Gordon King G3XTH dropped in to see us.

Gordon who was a long-time member of our club, installed the original HY repeater on the water tower at Haywards Heath. The repeater was built by his friend Paul G0OJA.

There were a number of other MSARS members that helped out when required, notably
Alan G8YKV.

The club’s trailer in full use. The 2m band was much livelier than 70cm

Teas and Coffee available from Chris 2E0GZZ in the Mess tent.

If you ask him nicely, Chris might even do one of his Big Breakfasts next time.

Mike G8KMP working the 70cm station. Band conditions were flat, with very little activity, despite our great location high up on the south downs.

View of our two stations.

Useful sign showing the event 'VHF NFD' and callsign G5RV/P with location IO90WV

We had a number of passers-by who were intrigued at what we were doing.

NFD RESULTS WILL APPEAR HERE SHORTLY.
